When the name "Wymering Manor" is stated, the first thing that springs to mind is a ghostly house. The manor's reputation as a haunted property becomes clear after visiting and seeing it personally. Its mystery is enhanced by the distinctive feature of deep shadows, dramatic differences in room sizes, and different lighting situations.

The artifect represents my time at Wymering Manor, where I explored
the intersection of sound and the architectural collaboration of diverse
materials. I attempted to replicate the acoustic environment by
experimenting with hanging objects and observing their complex
relationships. The objective of this project is to reproduce the soundscape
of Wymering Manor, where each material's unique acoustic resonance
illustrates the delicate interaction of architectural features. The use of a
wooden piece from Wymering Manor in the artifect tries to recreate the
spirit of the auditory tapestry discovered during my architectural research
at Wymering Manor.

Inspired by the intricate tapestries of Alice Kettle and influenced by the haunting experience at Wymering Manor, I have crafted an artifact that not only pays homage to Kettle's artistry but also encapsulates the essence of Wymering in its design. The rear side of the artifact serves as a visual testament to the structural strength of Wymering Manor, embodying its enduring legacy and sustainable architectural prowess.
In the meticulous construction of this artifact, domestic materials were deliberately chosen, mirroring the raw elements found within Wymering Manor itself. This intentional selection not only aligns with the sustainability ethos but also manifests a visual dialogue between the artifact and the enduring materials intrinsic to Wymering Manor's architecture.
Moreover, the incorporation of hanging wires in the artifact serves as a nod to Wymering Manor's auditory tapestry. The deliberate resemblance not only pays homage to the acoustic environment of the manor but also underscores the significance of sound in the overall architectural experience. This intentional use of materials and design elements creates a harmonious interplay between the artifact and the historical context of Wymering Manor, establishing a dialogue between past and present in the language of architecture.

The creaking floorboards, the rustling of leaves in the surrounding
gardens, and the distant echoes of historical whispers contribute to the
unique audio fabric of this manor. The rich tapestry of sound becomes
a guide, leading visitors through the corridors of time, connecting them
with the past.
